Sweet & Savory Decisions

This hidden gem came on the radar months ago on Instagram. Interestingly enough, I am not a huge sweets fan in the slightest. I typically eat so much beforehand that the top button of my jeans is undone, and dessert seems exhausting. But when I came across the word SAVORY on the menu, I piped up. Driving up to 3.14 Sweet and Savory Pi Bar is a little tricky; my GPS took me behind a building where I circled around a gas station and finally saw it. I walked in and was greeted by a glass display of 10-12 pies ready for a taste.

I ordered some brewed coffee and took a look at their various sweet pies on display. One thing to note is that the pies on their menu change periodically. Whatever they decide to make that day is what is available; sweet and/or savory. I visited on a Saturday morning with a few friends, and they were ready for us. I was ready for them too…in my stretchy jeans.

Typically, they offer 12oz Savory Pot Pies to purchase – safe to say two people can enjoy together. But today they had a special which was a 10oz pot pie with your choice of salad. This was my jam. I ordered the NOT SO GRINGO PORK GREEN CHILI pie which had a lovely buttery crust that glistened like molten – too much? The filling was sizable and each spoonful had a variety of heartiness that brought out all kinds of spices, especially the underappreciated thyme. My friend, Leigh, ordered ROSEMARY’S BABY… and she was forthcoming in cutting into it so I could smell, I mean, take a quick photo of this pie. The smoke billowed off of the chicken and carrots and was just a culinary beauty.

If that description doesn’t get your taste buds a-churning, then wait for this! I ate light the night before to prepare myself for the main attraction. Now, let me clarify why I chose the Birthday Cake Boston Creme Pie – August is my birthday month, and I saw the whole pie in its full glory on Instagram prior. It triggered dreams of pink sprinkles, fluffy clouds, giggles, and whipped cream. The layers provided a creamy, decadent bite that you savored in its entirety. And, it was just so vibrant to view. I loved it!

As Fall approaches(my favorite time of the year), I know my visits will increase or perhaps, I will try my hand at replicating that delicious buttery crust.  Cheers bebes!
